ELAINE TOPE

I am happiest when I am experiencing something new.

I find inspiration in noticing my environment, whether it be nature, or what humanity has designed and made. This is all art to my eyes. I am especially attracted to how the structure of what I am seeing is arranged, and what textures and colors contribute to my whole experience.

Realizing this explains my creative journey: from my early North Idaho days, building a house for our Rocky Mountain Blue Birds in my dad’s shop; to choosing my education at UCB and my profession in Architecture; and finally to committing to a studio space at the ICB in Sausalito where I make art.

Between those three “moments” in my life, I have experimented in nearly every art medium available to me. The many mediums, the tools, the substrates, the creative process, my teachers, and my creative community have shaped my affinity for art.

Currently I am working in mixed media on paper, canvas and wood.
Who knows what’s next?
