HELEN WERNGREN
I am an abstract painter and ceramic artist, born and raised in Sweden. I adopted the US as my country in the mid 90’s and made my way to California via New York and Colorado.
With a love of color, my paintings are playful, spirited explorations, freely responding to the environment around me.
When working in clay I hand build sculptural, organically shaped works, often incorporating my grandmother’s intricate crochet work in my pieces.
Whether painting or doing pottery, I often work in series, establishing a dialog between the pieces through color, composition and texture.
Filtering my emotions and visual experiences, both conscious and unconscious, my creative process is intuitive, spontaneous and experimental - quietly reflecting, revisiting and altering until I reach that final YES!
