Kate Zimmer is a contemporary abstract painter working mostly in acrylics and whose studio is in the historic Industrial Center Building (ICB) on the Sausalito waterfront. Although originally from the plains of Nebraska, she has lived and raised a son in the Bay Area since 1985.

Kate's paintings are colorful, bright and bold and evoke a joyful response. “My art practice is a journey and a reflection of me exploring all the different parts of myself. Emotions are the driver, and it’s my way of dancing with life’s ups and downs.” The art seeks to inspire feelings in the viewer rather than engage them in analytical thinking- and at the same time be perceived as interesting and beautiful.

Because Kate has a strong inner directive to always be evolving, her work reflects this in the different series she explores. One voice is gestural, and the others might be spacious color fields, grids, linear work, or most recently, big bold shapes. All her work has a strong color component.
