My paintings are built from spontaneous action and deep listening. Making marks, lines and gestures creates a visual dynamic that calls for exploration, excavation and ultimately, resolution. This way of painting requires a kind of ruthlessness; there is no room for attachment or sentimentality. The finished paintings are a record my presence. Both as creator and viewer, the more we can pay attention, the closer we get to the truth of the work.
